Lion King - The story of Moses

It was fun listening to Davy Liu yesterday night,

He was born in Taiwan, wasn't a very bright student there. He said he got straight F. So his parents decided to bring him to the US. And there, he realize the different culture in the State and in Taiwan. When he was in Taiwan, he will get chalk threw at his face when he draw, but in the State his teacher encourages him to draw. He said this, America creates cow boys not cows. Which are 2 very different thing. In the state, they embrace uniqueness. They have this very assurance that they are the children of all mighty King, but it is different than in Taiwan where they believe in the cycle of life and one day after they die, they will become grasshoppers or animals. Wow! I never see it that way before!

During his study in America, his teacher gave him a piece of paper and ask him to draw something that represented his country and his culture. If I'm not mistaken, it took him one month to create the master piece and he got top 20 in the whole United State.

This is the art work:

Can you see is a dragon drew with tall buildings? Amazing!

Some of his other work:

He told us that being an animator is fun because you can slip in your own style in it without anyone knowing. And he did it by drawing himself as the main character of Mulan!

When he was sharing with us about his working experience in Disney, he said something that impacted my heart. When he was working in Disney, it was a very fun experience, everyone working together as a team. Sometimes he even think about his work in his shower! It makes me think back to my own working life. I remember saying that I'm those kind of person that will not think about work when I go home. People tend to think that it is a good thing. I mean to a certain extend is good because you won't be too stressed up. But to another extend it just mean that you are not enjoying what you are doing and you are doing for the sake of earning for a living. And I think that this is really what I'm going through right now. That's why I need a big "leaf" of faith to move from where I am now. Hmm.. will talk about this next time.

Lion King was also one of his project that took them 4 years to complete. He showed us the original cub that Simba was drew from.

The real life Scar:

Did you know that the Lion King story is "borrowed" from the bible! I only found it out yesterday night! Davy Liu told us that it is the story of Moses running away after he had murdered someone and soon forget his own identity. Just like Simba when he thought he was the reason his father died and see himself as a murderer, he ran away. He met the two crazies and eventually he forget his identity and began to eat bugs instead of meat! See the connection now?! I was blown away when he told us this. I'm going to watch this movie again with this new perspective.

He shared a lot about being an artist. I might not be one, but I love to draw now. Recently most of my thoughts come in the form of pictures and drawing. That's why I'm making it a point to sketch at least one drawing before I sleep. If I missed, I got to do 2 the next day. And I'm pretty consistent in doing so. I think is a good thing.

Here are the few tips he shared:
Always bring your sketch book along, cause you never know when inspiration comes.
If you feel stuck, try doing something extra ordinary, something outside your routine.Do something that will give your brain a shock.
Reach out to friend, go out and have some fun. Because when you have nothing in your brain, you really have nothing.
Lastly, reach out to God. Because God our Father have the infinite resources that you ever need to get your creative juice flowing!

Really enjoyed his talk. I love it when he just slipped in testimonies about God. And it really make me think bigger and embrace my uniqueness more.

He will be with us until Sunday. So do drop by and trust me you really don't want to miss this!

Davy Liu is in the house!!!!

Many might not who is him, but I'm sure you will know his work of art. Davy Liu is the animator behind movies like Mulan, The Lion King, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast. If you are as old young as me, I bet you watch one of these movies before.

My personal favorite is Mulan. the way she sacrifices for her family to rescue her father touched my heart and I love her character a lot! Not that typical type of girl. Me like! The song "Reflection" in the movie is one of my favorite too!

But this post ain't about me or Mulan but about Davy Liu, because he is here in KL already and he will be ministering in City Harvest Church Kuala Lumpur tonight and this weekend's service. I can't wait to hear from him tonight! They say he'll be sharing on "Creative Process in Film and Animation"! Although I'm not an expert in these, but since I picked up drawing recently I think I can learn a thing or two. Not only that, they say he will be sharing a different message during the weekend services, I bet is going to be good!

Is always exciting to hear testimonies on how God use people working in and through the market place for His glory. Is not easy to just leave your comfort zone and be obedient to God's calling. Trust me, I learn it the hard way.

So if you are somewhere near Sunway tonight or this weekend, do join us.

Imma talk about water baptism

"You're going for your water baptism? Really?"
"Yup~ this weekend. Why?"
"You sure or not? When you are in, you cannot come out already. Die die is Christian d!"
"Ya. But..."

Ok, so this was my conversation with my friends few years ago before I had my water baptism. They were very concern about me going to be water baptized because they think that once I'm water baptized  I'm a "copped and signed" Christian and I cannot change religion anymore. (Not that I want to) But to me, it is not like what they thought it is.

Being a Christian is having a personal relationship with God. Whether I'm water baptized or not, if I don't have a relationship with God, Jesus will not know me. And if I have a personal relationship with God, but I'm yet to be baptized, I'm sure if I'm dead and go to heaven, Jesus will still recognize me. Christianity is not a religion stated in your I/C but a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with God.

Matthew 7:21-23
Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day. 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlesssness!'

How to know the will of God? Have a personal relationship with Him. How? Read the bible and pray!

I remember Pastor Bobby once told us that when he went for mission trip, one of the member came and ask him to water baptize all his friends. He was more than happy to do that. On that day, Pastor Bobby went to that place and he saw all of them smoking, full of foul languages in their mouth and tattoos were all around their body.Get the picture? So Pastor Bobby was curious and he went to that member and ask him where these people came from. And the member said this "All these are my gang members! I want them to have eternity, so I ask them all to come to be water baptized!". No! Water baptism is not a guarantee certificate for eternal life!

So what is water baptism all about? Water baptism is a public confession of your faith. That you believe in the Lord Jesus, you believe that He had died for your sins and now you are forgiven by the grace of God and accepted in the Kingdom of Christ. You confess what you believe through your action.

But more than just a public confession, water baptism symbolize Jesus's death, burial and resurrection. That after you are water baptized, you are dead towards your old sins, cover by the blood of Jesus and now you raise as a New Man in Christ.

I always thought that water baptism is only a public confession of my faith. Is like telling the whole world "Hey y'all! I'm a Christian you know! I believe in God!" full stop, end of story! Little did I know that water baptism represented more than just public confession. But there are spiritual elements in it!

I heard testimonies like someone who have tattoos all over his body was water baptized and when he came out of the water, his tattoos were all gone. Well, I din't know whether the water was dirty after that, but either way, is still a miracle! And the other one I heard is someone with smoke addiction problem was water baptized and when he came out of the water, his addiction was miraculously gone! Praise the Lord!

What I'm trying to say is, we tend to reduce the significance of water baptism. More than a public confession, water baptism symbolize us dying with Christ on the cross, nailing our old self, bury our sin nature and by the power of the blood of Jesus and the grace of God we are raise up as a New Man in Christ.

So if you are going to be water baptized soon, please don't forget what water baptism is all about. Be water baptized, declare your faith and expect a miracle from God! Whatever you need to have a breakthrough, leave it all into God's hand, bury it with Christ, and resurrect with Christ as a new being. Expect a miracle!

Hope you are blessed!

p/s: I wish I knew this before I was water baptized, then I would have believe in God for a miracle. Can I be water baptized again? please~~~~
